Jonah Engelhardt is the first baby to be born of the new decade at Franciscan Health Indianapolis at 5:14 a.m. on Jan. 1. He weighed 9 pounds and 6 ounces and was 21 inches long. Jonah is the son of Michele and Danny Engelhardt, above, who received a gift basket with a variety of items for the infant.
Jonah has two older sisters, and is the grandson of Ted and Debbie Lobdell and Tom and Amy Engelhardt.
In 2019, more than 2,200 babies have been born at the hospital at 8111 S. Emerson Ave. Each time a child is born at the hospital, Jesus Loves Me chimes throughout the hospital via the public address system. The World Health Organization has designated the year 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife,” honoring the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, who is considered the founder of modern nursing.
