Fate of CSL Plasma may be decided June 4

A petition to rezone the southwest corner of Madison Avenue and Southport Road from C-3 to C-4 to allow for a CSL Plasma branch will be heard by the Department of Metropolitan Development at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, on the second floor of the City-County Building.

Time will be allowed for some discussion before the DMD makes a favorable or unfavorable recommendation to the Board of Zoning Appeals.

CSL has proposed to enlarge the former Advance Auto Parts store and says it will annually pump $2 million to $3 million into the local economy through the money it pays to donors; a similar amount will be paid in wages.
But those numbers aren’t impressing the vast amount of remonstrators, who agree in unison that the center is not a good fit for the community.

At a town-hall meeting April 23, more than 125 residents voiced their stern disapproval, citing everything from the safety of nearby schoolchildren, added traffic, the type of clientele that frequents such centers and loitering.
