But it doesn’t have to be.
With proceeds from the St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild Decorators’ Show House, Eskenazi Health has established a program for people with cancer called EMBRACE (Encouraging Meaning and Balance in a Renewing and Comforting Environment), which allows people to receive supportive services through a holistic approach, strengthening their ability to adjust to life with cancer.
By providing patients with access to these services, Eskenazi Health is able to ease the burden of the fight against cancer for those whose lives have been touched by this frightening disease.
“The program itself is unique in that it not only connects people touched by cancer, but also provides encouragement and addresses many of the concerns these patients have,” said DeAnna Wesley, director of EMBRACE.
Wesley added that the program moves far beyond the traditional supportive organizational model by providing access to much needed one-on-one services, including individual counseling and crisis intervention, financial, prescription and transportation assistance, legal services and massages.
