Shara Hostetler has been appointed to the Southport City Council by Marion County Republican Central Committee Chairman Michael McQuillen. Because Southport sits within one precinct, statute gives the assignment of filling a vacancy to the chairman.
She fills the vacancy left after former at-large Councilor Steve Beals resigned.
Having a long history of serving Southport and the Republican Party, Hostetler was a natural fit for the position, according to McQuillen. As a candidate for Southport clerk-treasurer last year, she campaigned vigorously, meeting residents and discussing the challenges they faced.
Serving as an elected precinct committeeman and a volunteer in her community, Hostetler leads by example and principle, McQuillen added.
