Effie Naomi (Gilliland) Beaver Effie Naomi (Gilliland) Beaver is celebrating her 100th birthday Saturday with a private party at Beech Grove Christian Church, where she is a lifelong member.
Beaver was born Nov. 5, 1915, and graduated from Beech Grove High in 1933, which makes her the school’s oldest grad. She is a 74-year member of Order of Easter Star No. 465.
She retired from Beech Grove Schools after serving as a secretary for nearly 18 years. Her interests include crocheting, which she learned from her mom. She loves flowers and enjoyed reading until her eyesight started to fail.
Mayor Dennis Buckley honored Beaver on her 99th birthday by declaring Nov. 5, 1914, as Naomi Beaver Day. She had her picture taken in front of the house that she was born in on South Fifth Avenue.
