The Old Southside Neighborhood Association has received the Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center’s Award for Building Local Economy for its efforts in revitalizing the area, which is plagued by vacant houses and commercial property.
After meeting with community leaders and examining their options, members of the association hosted a property showcase in June at Sacred Heart Parish Hall and invited developers, investor and potential homeowners to learn about the area and its amenities.
Fast-forward nine months and the neighborhood is seeing a slow but steady increase in renovations, and there are plenty of inquiries about available property.
Those on hand for the award presentation were (from left) Dr. Lisa Harris, chief exective officer of Eskenazi Hospital, Old Southside residents, Crystal Bridgewater, Judith Essex, Beatrice Miller, Lisa Hale and Teah Boillat and Reba Taylor-Hill, community education and outreach liaison of the Marion County Public Health Department.
