Walters comes from Southport High, where she served in several different roles. She started as an English teacher before being promoted to dean of girls. She has served as an assistant principal since 2007, focusing on curriculum, instruction and assessment development.
She replaces Steve Cox, who retired after serving at the helm for seven years.
Walters earned her bachelor’s degree in English literature from Yale and a master’s in educational leadership from Indiana University, where she is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership.
