Greenwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5864 commander
One of Greenwood VFW Post 5864’s most notable veterans is Steve Keever. As indicated by his picture below, he is undoubtedly a soldier’s soldier.
Keever, who earned the rank of sergeant E-5 in the Army, served with the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group, a highly classified, multiservice special operations unit that conducted covert unconventional warfare operations prior to and during the Vietnam War. Keever served on Recon Team Illinois.
He served in the Army from Oct. 23, 1968, to Aug. 14, 1971, and was in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos from Jan. 13, 1970, to Aug. 13, 1971.
His specialty was strategic reconnaissance, covert action and psychological Warfare
Keever’s decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Vietnam Jump Wings and Presidential Unit Citation.
He and his wife, Rebecca, have two daughters, Cara Amis and Megyn Tidwell, and four grandchildren.
