The Old Southside Neighborhood Association has received a $4.5 million grant from the City of Indianapolis for a variety of improvements in the near-Southside. The association works with a variety of organizations. The initial meeting of the Old Southside Lift Indy steering committee recently was held at the Concord Neighborhood Center. In photo, the committee includes, front to back, left side, Ike McCoy, mayor’s neighborhood advocate; Peter Kuhns, Lift Indy; Pastor Jed Fuller, Impact Old Southside; Judith Essex, resident; Jason Larrison, Core Planning Strategies; Kate Warpool, City of Indianapolis; right side, Niki Girls, director, Concord Neighborhood Center; Deb Kunce, Core Planning Strategies; Tom Dale and John Bragg, Stadium Village Business Association; and John Sauter, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The group’s first project is an upgrade of Kelly Park, adjacent to the Concord Neighborhood Center. They have discussed potential projects with Indy Parks representatives. The Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership also oversees construction of 13 affordable homes and the owner-occupied repair program. A portion of the grant will be placemaking for South Meridian Street from McCarty to Arizona streets.
