When Amy and Mike Masterson began their search for a lakeside vacation home, the longtime Beech Grove couple had no idea their search would be part of the popular HGTV cable network series “Lakefront Bargain Hunt.”
Their search will air in a rerun at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The 30-minute program concludes with their decision to purchase a $325,000 home on Lake Norris near Knoxville, Tenn. The segment was televised twice in mid-April.
“We had to talk about being on national TV,” Amy said after being notified by a real estate agent that they could be part of the HGTV series. “Finally we decided we would take it on because we had nothing to lose. We might as well have fun with it.”
And they did.
The Mastersons are shown casually paddleboarding on the lake and fishing from their dock in privacy. They describe their three-bedroom home as a lakeside dream. They passed on other choices due to lack of accessibility, low water level and having to install a tram to get to the lake.
The show was taped during four days in late October. Their TV appearance came about when the production company contacted real estate agent Beth Ellison, who reached out to the Mastersons.
Amy and Mike consider the area ideal because they are close to Knoxville and its rejuvenated Downtown, the Great Smoky Mountains, water recreation and hiking, and it’s only a two-hour drive to Asheville, N.C.
Mike is an engineer at Crossroad Engineering in Beech Grove. Amy is a business entrepreneur who has revitalized Downtown Beech Grove and restored buildings for businesses through Masterson Properties. She is active in civic affairs and is a co-founder of the Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce.
