Perry Township Schools has enjoyed a great semester in the classroom, on the stage and on the field.
I want to thank our students, families, staff and community members for their work and support. Together, we share a belief for excellence in education. We understand that a strong school system reflects a vigorous community. Below are just a few highlights from the first semester (this is by no means a complete list):

• Your school district received a letter grade of an A from the Indiana Department of Education. The total point value was the highest that could have been achieved. I rank that as an A+ in my grade book!
• Your staff focused hard on building partnerships and relationships with organizations such as Beck Service Center, Mo’s, Chick-fil-A, Skillman Automotive Group, the NCAA, Indiana Blood Bank, Citizens Energy Group, the Indianapolis Colts, Goodwill, Wish for our Heroes, the city of Southport, WRTV Toy Drive, Toys for Tots, Make a Wish Foundation, Hunger Inc., Southside Animal Shelter, Allen Whitehill Clowes Foundation, McMiracle Bicycles and many more.
• Area churches have partnered with us to provide support and counseling to students who may need an understanding ear during difficult times.
• Emily Wampler received the Excellence in Education Award from the Autism Society of Indiana. The award is presented to an instructor who demonstrates excellence in providing special education services and understanding the needs of students with autism spectrum disorder.
• Winchester Village Elementary received the National PTA School of Excellence Award for building strong family-school partnerships.
• Perry Township qualified for the fifth annual Advanced Placement district honor roll as Perry Meridian and Southport high schools increased student access to AP classes while the students maintained or increased their scores of 3 or higher on the exams.

PMHS won the Free Application for Federal Student Aid completion project in Marion County for having the highest percentage increase of seniors filling the form.
SHS’ publications received Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association awards in editorial writing, photography portfolio, copy editing, caption and headline writing and yearbook copy/caption.
Our last student day before Christmas break is Thursday, with school resuming Jan. 5. When we return, grades will be calculated for the second quarter and the first semester. It is with great anticipation that we begin our second semester. Our work isn’t done.

I wish everyone a blessed and safe holiday season filled with time for family and friends.
