| If you enjoy browsing art, sampling tasty treats from local restaurants, sipping microbrews and wine and grooving to the beat of live music, Saturday’s WAMMfest at Craig Park in Greenwood should be penciled in on your calendar. WAMM, an acronym for wine, art, music and microbrew, has been hosted by the Sertoma Club of Greenwood since 2009 as part of its efforts to raise funds for local organizations. Duane King and Jim Anderson will be among 70-plus artists exhibiting their work. King, a longtime artist, heads the Southside Art League and is executive director of the Southport Artistry Committee, which meets the first Thursday of every month. Many art enthusiasts have probably seen him at events where he sketches drawings for people and engages them with his warm smile and conversation. His sculptures – considered treasured pieces for anyone’s home – depict scenes of everyday life. Anderson, also a committee member, returned to his artistic ways in December 2012 after a 35-year career in information technology with Herff Jones. He owns Art From the Spirit, and he and his wife, Linda, are members of the Indianapolis Photographic Society, which meets every Wednesday evening at the Garfield Park Arts Center. His photographic works feature subjects from real and abstract settings in nature to people in their daily lives. A few of his works are on display at The Southsider Voice. Tickets for the festival are $10 in advance and available at Greenwood Library, the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and all Ray Skillman auto dealerships. Tickets are $15 at the gate. The park is located at 10 E. Smith Valley Road. Info: www.wammfest.com. |
