| Despite the rain, our office and parking lot were packed for a special cruise-in on Friday. Special because we celebrated Bob ‘Bikini’ Keeney’s 75th birthday and presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 60-plus years of contributions to the hot-rodding hobby. Many of his friends showed up to congratulate him and recall the good ol’ days. After Big Dan Pfeiffer did a front-page story about the upcoming gala, we were inundated with calls about the affair; many people stopped in to share their stories about Bikini last week. Bikini is a special guy. Our congratulations go out to him. A special thanks goes to Robbin Graves, my assistant here at the paper, for helping me prepare all of the food, father-in-law Dick Sawyers for assisting with the food line, our setup/tear-down crew: associate editor Scott Mohr, Steve and Lynn Graphman, Big Dan, Paul and Melanie Rippy, Tom, Bev, Kyle and Jake Masengale, Bob Graves, my husband, Brett Sawyers, and my father, Bob Collins. And I can’t forget our generous and wonderful sponsors: Beck Service Center, Dant Insurance, Chick fil-A, Dan Shine and Gerald Seacat. Hugs to all of you for helping me achieve my dream. Our next cruise-in is at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5. Hope you like Italian food. Yum! |
