Friday night’s all right for a cruise-in at The Voice

6/10/2015

The Southsider Voice’s second cruise-in of the season on Friday for hot rods and classic cars was a huge success. The weather was awesome, and there was a great turnout of cars and people.
Despite the Good Guys’ car show at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, more than 100 automobiles were on display in The Voice’s parking lot. Private owners as well as members from the Indiana Early Ford V-8 Club proudly showed off their vehicles while telling stories to admirers.

If you have not attended one of The Voice’s cruise-ins, I would try to make the next one, which gets under way at 6 p.m. Friday, July 3.

In addition to classic and current hot rods, there are also vintage cars. The atmosphere is carnival-like but family-oriented with everyone ready to share stories and answer questions about their cars. It’s a good opportunity for car enthusiasts to swap information about their rides while learning about car clubs and other shows. The fun always lasts until the sun goes down.

Free food and icy bottled water are provided, courtesy of Dant Insurance. Pizza from Papa John’s and Jet’s, a nice salad and cookies were served at Friday’s event. Paul Rippy is on hand to spin the tunes, and there is a 50-50 drawing with prizes.

The cruise-ins, launched three years ago, are held at 6 p.m. the first Friday of each month from May through October. They continue to grow in popularity.
