Superintendent of Perry Township Schools
We are proud to announce that the sixth annual Coach Hathaway’s Running South, which takes place in and around Perry Stadium Saturday, Sept. 24, has a new sponsor.
The run will be sponsored by Community Health Network, and it’s wonderful to have this outstanding health organization on board as our main sponsor. The event also includes a health fair and a family Forum. Registration numbers appear to be rising this year as we prepare for another great event.
Running South honors the late Tom Hathaway, who taught and coached cross-country and track in Perry Township Schools for 44 years, most of that time at Southport High School. While it’s a fitting way to honor him, it’s also a great time to raise money for Perry Township students.
Running South has grown into a great family and community event and fundraiser for the foundation.
The race is open to all runners and walkers. The run/walk course includes 10K, 5K and 1-mile events and a kiddie romp.
The event has brought a major focus on health to our entire faculty and student body. We have several running clubs in our schools that will participate. They are making signs to encourage classmates, teachers and family members to train and run in the event.
Proceeds will support the Perry Township Education Foundation, whose mission is to provide grants to teachers to develop innovative and creative instructional lessons for their students. You can register at www.ptef.org.
Your school facilities are utilized a great deal by the community, as they should be. Tax dollars from our community make this possible, and we should make every effort to open our buildings for community organizations to use.
We hope to see you at Running South.
