Tribute to Fallen Soldiers will host a 2,500-mile cross-country motorcycle ride to serve as an escort for the Fallen Soldiers Memorial Flame, which will burn continuously throughout the journey.
Departing Saturday from Eugene, Ore., and arriving Aug. 7 at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, the ride makes various stops along the way to pay tribute to fallen soldiers by presenting their families plaques and portraits in memory of their lost ones. One of those stops will be at American Legion Post 355, 7610 S. Meridian St., on Wednesday, Aug. 3. The riders will be greeted at Crawfordsville at 7:45 p.m. for a fuel stop before heading to the post. The flame should arrive at the post around 9 p.m. and will burn throughout the evening and night under the watchful eyes of guards. The tentative ride for Aug. 4 calls for visiting the families of three fallen soldiers before departing at 12:15 p.m. for lunch in Batesville. After eating, the riders will head to Cincinnati. People interested in meeting the riders at Crawfordsville should call Mike Delaney at 372-8791. |
