Cassie Evans, a 13-year-old seventh-grader at Calvary Lutheran School, has earned All-American honors for her efforts in the discus throw while competing in U.S. Track & Field and AAU meets. She placed eighth – the cutoff point for earning All-American status – in the 13- and 14-year-old division in the Junior Olympics in Houston after hurling the discus 107 feet, 5 inches. Cassie Evans then competed a week later in the AAU Junior Olympics Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa, where she established a personal best throw of 109-25 1/4 and finished fifth. Earlier this spring she won the shot put at the Lutheran Schools City Track & Field Championships. Cassie, who also plays volleyball, attributes her success to hard work and her coaches. |
