By Nathan Pace Online editor Perry Meridian High School’s boys and girls cross country teams battled the elements Saturday morning during the Eagle Classic in Brown County. One of the largest meets of the year, the races went on despite the downpour of rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon. The pristine course of green grass turned into a swamp of mud and puddles, making it a challenge for some runners to just keep their shoes on. The girls reserve race was the last event of the day, and all the participants were covered with mud as they crossed the finish line. Perry’s girls team was ninth out of 19 teams in the largeschool varsity race. The boys were ninth out of 24 teams. Andrew Haggerty led the boys with a 10th-place finish, and Triniti Spurgeon led the girls with her 22nd-place finish. |
