Roncalli returns plenty of talent

Heavy hitting infielders are among returnees at Roncalli. They include sophomore Amber Linton, junior Amanda Prather and seniors Jordan Jenkins and Lauren Fey. Each player hit over .400 last season. Linton and Jenkins share pitching duties.
Roncalli (22-7) – Rebels graduated only Maddie Faust and Abby Hopkins … return with 10 varsity letter winners … ninth-year coach Dave Lauck also serves as athletic director … plenty of pop with four .400-plus hitters: soph Amber Linton, .444, 40 hits, 21 RBIs; third-year starter Amanda Prather, .435, 40 hits, 20 RBIs; senior third-year starter Jordan Jenkins, .424, 41 hits, 19 RBIs; and fourth-year starter Lauren Fey, .409, 38 hits, 29 runs … senior Sam Curtis hit .395 and was RBI leader until sidelined with injury … classmates Scout Leffler (.349, 29 hits) and center fielder Amelia Bannister can score runs … Leffler, junior Jada Moran and soph Ellie Hammerschmitt move from infield to outfield … Jenkins (11-2, 2.83 ERA) and Linton (10-4, 1.72 ERA) top pitchers … seniors Jen Smith and Sierra Holtsclaw add experience … more than 50 girls tried out for softball … tough sectional includes recent nemesis Decatur Central … travel to face Center Grove today.

Coach’s comments: “I like our chances to maybe win 20 games ... if we can pick up where we left off last year. We improved from Game 1 to Game 29 and that’s what you try to do. The dynamic has changed this year because of experience, confidence and chemistry. We just have to plug in a couple of positions. Prather, Fey and Jenkins make good contact with their bats. They make my job easier. It’s going to be hard getting everyone in the lineup. The talent is good, the tradition is strong and I’m lucky to be in charge of this group.”
