Height and experience create optimism for Flashes

Franklin Central has one of its tallest and most experienced teams in recent seasons with seniors (front) McCaughleigh Whalen, Nicole Austin, Dejah Riley, Carmen Blackley; (back) Kelsey Ferrell, Janea Bell, Corri Rusk, Haley Sobieralski and Madison Munger. Sobieralski had 29 assists and Whalen was Player of the Game in opening win against Heritage Christian last week.
Franklin Central (15-15) – Southside’s most improved team … coach Sandra Moore has healthy 6-1 Sobieralski (400 digs, 346 assists, 226 kills) among nine seniors and junior setter Elleanne Moore, 476 assists … 5-9 Madison Munger, No. 1 with 249 kills, brings front-line punch … depth up front comes from 6-0 Janea Bell, 5-10 Corri Rusk and 5-8 Kelsey Ferrell … seniors Carmen Blackley, McCauleigh Whalen, Dejah Riley and Nicole Austin up from last year’s junior varsity … big year ahead for Flashes, who play in tough Greenwood Sectional.

Coach’s comments: “I’m very optimistic about this season with this team. We have a wealth of experience. This is one of the tallest teams we have put on the court. Our front line is very solid and deep, and we have a returning setter. We could challenge for conference and sectional.”
