Four Southside high school soccer teams brought home sectional championship trophies Saturday. Roncalli and Greenwood Christian Academy won boys titles, and Roncalli and Center Grove captured girls crowns. Unranked Roncalli shut out Perry Meridian 2-0 at Center Grove, and GCA handled host Southwestern 3-1.

The Rebels (12-5-2) travel Saturday and face favored No. 3 Castle (13-4) at 10 a.m. in the 3A regional at Seymour with the winner facing the Floyd Central-Bloomington South winner at 7 p.m. In the 1A regional at Knightstown, GCA meets Seton Catholic at noon with the winner going to the 7 p.m. final.

Roncalli scored in the sixth minute on a header by senior William Bawi with a pass from junior Vince Agramonte. Goalkeeper Daniel Woodruff saved the shutout in the final seconds by smothering a loose ball in front of the goal.

“This win means everything for our program,” said coach Joseph Schonegg. “To play this team five straight years in the sectional final and to finally break through … the players deserve all the credit and the glory, as they worked so hard for this.”

Roncalli has won five of its last six matches, defeating Greenwood 5-2 in the sectional opener and Whiteland 6-3 in the semifinal. In two previous meetings this season the finalists played to a 1-1 tie, and the Falcons won 4-0 in late September.

Center Grove’s girls eliminated Columbus North 2-0 at Franklin, and Franklin Central blanked Mount Vernon 1-0 at Greenfield. Franklin Central runs into Avon in the 3A regional at Brebeuf Jesuit at 10 a.m.

Saturday with the winner colliding against Lawrence North or favored No. 4 Carmel at 7 p.m.; No. 8 Center Grove goes against 3A regional host and No. 20 Bloomington South at 10 a.m. with the winner meeting No. 13 Evansville North or No. 20 Floyd Central for the title at 7 p.m.
