Coach’s comments: “We lost a lot to graduation, all our outfielders, third-baseman Rachel Derf and majority of our pitching. We will have to put up runs to stay in games. Kind of the same situation we had last year. We’re very young and a little inexperienced with our pitching. Hitting will be a key. Anyone who can hit will find a way into the lineup. We have enough for a JV team that we didn’t have last year. And we have some good freshmen. We will preach the same little things – effort, energy and attitude.”
GREENWOOD (4A, 8-20) – Program on upswing with a JV team this year after a year’s absence … stuck on consecutive 8-win seasons … 3rd-year coach Greg Norman saw six starters graduate, including entire outfield … will rely on seniors, catcher Lexi Rees, second-baseman Allison Hayes & pitcher McKenzie Riffey … junior starters, Dominique Proctor at short & Tori Stout on the mound … lineup mixes in soph 1st-baseman Kiley Hankenhoff who started most games last year , junior Leah Rees & freshman Alyssa Lewis … 3rdbase & all outfield spots open among 6 players … optimism prevails.
