Franklin Central’s seniors hope to lead the Flashes deep into the state tournament again. They are Austin Kocken, Antwon Jackson, leading scorer Marcus Burk and assist leader Jimmy Weinke.
FRANKLIN CENTRAL  (9-16) – Phenomenal Flashes only won five games in regular season … then won Whiteland Sectional and reached Elite Eight with avenging win against Bloomington South at Seymour … graduated five seniors who combined for 11.9 ppg and 12.1 rebounds per game  … look for a much faster start this time from coach John Rockey’s Flashes … three top players return – 6-4 senior Marcus Burk, 19.0 ppg, 4.8 rebounds; senior point guard and assist leader Jimmy Weinke, 6.4 ppg; and 6-5 junior forward Grant Pedigo, 10.4 ppg, 4.9 rebounds … Burk is a 40 percent 3-point shooter … look for 6-2 senior forward Austin Kocken and senior center Antwon Jackson … Cathedral transfer Mason Hardiman, junior guard Jake Cerbone (5.2 ppg) and 6-4 football player 6-4 Wilson Huber at forward add talent … big season could be in store for Flashes; open tonight at Ben Davis.

Coach’s comments: “We want to come out of the chutes at the get-go this season. We want to turn last year’s record around. It looks like we have started slowly in past seasons, but we’ve faced Ben Davis, Center Grove, Warren Central and Columbus North. I’m happy with our returning players. We are looking for a better start; we’ll be able to compete against all those teams this year. Our defense is a bit weak; we as coaches have to get these players more defensive-minded. Our offense is solid because we can score in so many different ways. We play a high-level schedule, and that always helps us when the tourney starts.”
