Ten teams and five more runners from the Southside advanced Saturday to the cross-country semistate at Blue River Park in Shelbyville.
Center Grove’s boys and girls teams ran Saturday to championships at the Shelbyville Regional, where Southport finished second (56-57) in the girls 5K and the boys placed third; Greenwood was fourth, Perry Meridian fifth.
Southport’s Erin Sullivan (18 minutes, 3 seconds) and teammate Lexi Green finished first and second, respectively. Southport’s Michael Cook was runner-up in the boys race.
Franklin Central’s girls team dominated the Rushville Regional with Roncalli third. Flashes Shayla Traas, Jada Reedus and Kayla Hoover finished among the top five.
Franklin Central was third and Roncalli fifth in the boys meet.
Alexandra Dalton of Greenwood Christian Academy and Olivia LeMasters of Perry Meridian advanced to the girls semistate. Boys who advanced include Christopher Switzer and Alexander Rozell of Perry Meridian and Conner Kelly of Beech Grove.
The Shelbyville semistate begins at 3 p.m. Saturday. The top six teams and top 10 runners from other teams qualify for the state finals Saturday, Oct. 29, at Terre Haute.
