Coach’s comments: “We are trying to figure out who steps up as far as leadership and to see where the new guys fit. We have some good athletes; we’re just trying to figure out who will jell with each other. I see us as a team that plays really good defense, rebounds well, gets some points in transition and plays solid half-court defense. Keys to our season will be if we can win the battle on the boards every game and play defense well. If we don’t dig in and do those little things, it will be a long road. We have a difficult schedule. We want every game to have that tourney feel so our players learn in that kind of atmosphere.
GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN (9-16) – Lots of question marks for 11th-year coach Jamie Satre … graduated five seniors (31.1 ppg combined) … Cougars hope to score in transition … depends on senior guards in versatile and hard-working Jared Davenport (7.5 ppg), Hunter Slater (4.3 ppg) and Troy Healy (8.0 ppg) plus solid shooting junior Camden Peters and sophomore Joel Stinnett … 6-5 senior Krae Sparks is inside-outside threat … 6-4 junior Dan Witte adds power underneath … Satre wants team to grow by playing nine non-Class A opponents … Cougars play Saturday night at 4A Greenwood.
