Beech Grove has its beefiest front line in years with Rayden Tabor, Aden Cailey, Josh Fryar, who averaged 43.7 yards per punt last season, Max Camado and Zak Dale.
BEECH GROVE (4-6) – Coach Mark Weller in eighth year; Hornets 24-18 last four years … graduated 10 seniors … challenge to replace stats of running back/defensive lineman Isaiah Hulse (1,070 yards rushing, 6.9 yards per carry, 14 TDs; 70 tackles, 13 sacks) and six defenders who made 275 tackles … O-line is big strength (average 250 pounds) … seniors Aden Cailey and Zak Dale, juniors Rayden Tabor, Josh Fryar and sophomore/second-year starter Max Comado … senior quarterback Jordan Reel (547 yards passing, five TDs, seven interceptions) looks vastly improved. Backfield solid with seniors Kylon Tyler (5.6 yards per carry, 437 yards receiving, four TDs) and Sergio Hulse (7.1 yards per carry)  looks vastly improved … Charles Ellis, Jake Weller, Shaun Small and Nick Smock up front on defense … linebackers Teron Washington, Ayden Brooks,  D-backs include senior Terrece Pope, juniors Keyonni Johnson, Donovan Bailey, Romeo Echols and Gavin Mitchell … Hornets open with four straight Indiana Crossroads Conference foes.

Coach’s comments: “Finally, our offensive line should be a real strength for us for the first time since I’ve been here. We have good size, good experience, and the kids have worked hard in the weight room. Hopefully we can follow them to some success this year. We do have some good underclassmen coming out to help us with depth. We have holes to fill on defense. We will be athletic. “We have to stay healthy up front because we aren’t deep. We are trying to limit the number of players going both ways but that is hard to do. Without Isaiah we have to make up for his rush yards with multiple guys and with more passing yards. Our main goal is a winning season, then conference champion and sectional champion, which has never been done here before.”
