The seventh annual Championship Cat Show was being held at the Knights of Columbus, 511 E. Thompson Road. Proceeds would benefit the Morris Foundation, which fought animal diseases.
Forty Years Ago This Week – 1978 Editor George Cafouros took the week off and didn’t publish a paper, but the following picture (below, right) was emailed to us last week.
Roncalli’s and Southport’s football team were playing in the opening game of a doubleheader at the RCA Dome. Perry Meridian was meeting defending 5A state champion Ben Davis in the nightcap.

Twenty Years Ago This Week – 1998
Rolls-Royce Allison named David Siefker as its Trainee of the Year. The award was presented to an engineering student who had participated in either the company’s education or summer intern programs and subsequently has been hired as a full-time employee. Siefker, a graduate of Purdue University, was the son of Robert and Theresa Siefker of Greenwood.

Jason Ryan, a member of Boy Scout Troop 107 in Franklin Township, earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor attainable in Scouting.

The starting pay for car washers at Kopetsky’s, 2640 Madison Ave., was $7.25 an hour. Deli clerks and cashiers at Shapiro’s, 808 S. Meridian St., could expect to start at between $7 and $8 an hour.
