Founded by William Ciriello in 1952 on a $200 loan, the plumbing company that bore his name celebrated its 50th anniversary. The second-generation owners were Bill Ciriello and Laura Ciriello-Benedict, whose business was located at 160 S. First Ave., Beech Grove.

Edgewood’s 14-and-under all-star softball team won tournaments in Beech Grove and New Palestine. Coached by Mike Smith, Mary Lynch and Sherri Crawford, the squad’s members were Lauren Shephard, Rachel Bartley, Lindsey Dixon, Brooke and Brittany Suiters, Ashley Spotlia, Brandi Rose, Brittany Herholtz, Heather Golden, Rachel Manson, Amiee Smith and Kerry Lynch.

Betty Davis, who founded the Greenwood Senior Citizens Center with a library in the late 1970s, stepped down as the club’s director to serve as manager of special events and programming.

Dillon Webb , a member of Boy Scout Troop 51 at St. Jude Parish, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout by completing his service project of cleaning up Bean Creek in Garfield Park. Webb, seen with his scoutmaster, Tim Shilson, was a graduate of Southport High School and a freshman at Franklin College.
