It was another competitive week for the readers of The Southsider Voice who sent in an entry to the football pick'em in a week that was full of surprises and upsets.
The sixth week this season proved to be the toughest so far for readers since the majority of them missed three games or more due the unpredictable finishes and final scores of games from the high school and college gridiron.
Teams who came away with a victory were: Beech Grove (40-28), Center Grove (35-21), Southport slipped past Franklin Central 28-13 in the tiebreaker, Guerin Catholic (42-27), Purdue (24-14), Ball State (31-27), Wake Forest (33-28) and Duke (38-35).
The pick'em winner is determined by who correctly guesses the most winners among that week's slate of games. The first tiebreaker is determined by the reader who guesses closest to the points cored by the winning team in the tiebreaker while the second tiebreaker is determined by the overall score of the game. A third tiebreaker, if needed, is determined by who sends in picks the earliest.
Four readers missed two games to vie for the top three spots. They were: Ross Agresta, Rosemary Kehl, Hanna Anderson and Nick Cahill. Agresta took first-place when his score of 28 points for the winning team helped him pull away from Kehl, who finished in second-place. Cahill takes third place beating out Hanna Anderson who missed the tiebreaker game.
Agresta comes away with a combo meal from Chick-A-Boom (8028 S. Emerson Avenue, Suite B) and a gift certificate to Jersey Mike's Subs (6815 S. Emerson Avenue). Kehl wins a gift certificate from Chicago's Pizza (1280 US 31, Greenwood) while Cahill grabs a gift certificate for a cactus blossom or fried pickles appetizer at Texas Roadhouse (270 S. Marlin Drive, Greenwood). Each of the top-three finishers also receives a gift certificate from SportClips, good for 50 percent off any men's or boys service for new clients (ID required) or get a MVP or triple play upgrade (men's or boys) for loyal returning clients. All winners may pick up their prizes at The Southsider Voice office at 6025 Madison Ave
