Superintendent of Perry Township Schools
Perry Township Schools continues to recognize the efforts and commitments of its student-athletes as Southport High School and Southport Middle School take center stage this week.
Southport High Schools girls cross-country team was crowned sectional champs this year, the first time since 1994. The squad, which advanced to semistate, was led by senior Erin Sullivan and freshman Lexie Green, both of whom earned All-Marion County and All-Conference Indiana recognition.
The girls soccer team earned the most wins in program history this season.
The winter sports season is underway with the start of basketball and wrestling. On Dec. 10 the Forum Tipoff Classic will be held at Southport Fieldhouse, with the boys team playing South Bend Riley at 7 p.m. Top players from around the state will be competing throughout the day. The final game of the evening – North Central vs. New Albany – will be televised on Fox Sports.
Swimming starts Thursday.

Southport Middle
The Cardinals had a tremendous fall athletic season with some outstanding team accomplishments and one individual county championship.
Eighth-grader Malachi Hampshire captured the individual title at the Marion County cross-country championships at Ben Davis High, where the boys team finished second to Eastwood by one point. The girls placed fifth.
The eighth-grade football team completed its season with a 7-1 record, including a 24-12 victory over Perry Meridian.
The girls tennis squad set a school record with its mark of 15-2.Finally, the boys soccer team completed a magical, undefeated season (11-0) by outscoring their opponents 90-1.
The winter season is underway, and the boys basketball team travels to Doe Creek Middle School Thursday.
