The longtime Southside physician published the book in July 2018 and has read his story to more than 3,000 children in Perry Township. The illustrations were done by son-in-law Joel Dale, creative manager for the Indiana Pacers. Buffie’s suspenseful story has a surprise twist to its climax, but it’s more than just a fun read. The story’s message is that we shouldn’t judge others by their outward appearance. The glossary, Learning Corner, and rap add educational and creative elements that enable children to develop a love of reading.
Buffie is an internal medicine physician and has been practicing in the area since 1984. He served as CEO for 19 years of Indiana Internal Medicine Consultants. His wife, Jo Ellen, is a former Perry Township school board member. They are the parents of four grown children several grandchildren who also have enjoyed hearing and retelling of “The Blue Ape”.
