A reception to honor Fred D. Cavinder with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism from The Southsider Voice was held Sunday at Greenwood Meadows, where many of his friends gathered for the occasion.
Cavinder, who capped a distinguished career as a features writer for The Voice, where the staff cherished his visits and dry sense of humor. He wrote for the The Indianapolis Star from 1965-91, during which time he frequently won awards for his writing in contests sponsored in Indiana by The Associated Press and United Press. He wrote for The Spotlight for about 15 years after leaving The Star.
Cavinder, seen with wife Wanda, has penned many books, his first being “The Indiana Book of Records, Firsts and Fascinating Facts.”
