Juan, a fifth-grader at Mary Bryant Elementary and seen holding his “letter of intent,” was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in 2012. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation for a year and continues to have follow-up visits.
“We gave Juan a hat along with a signed jersey to make him feel welcome,” said Harrison Koppenhofer, a senior. “He will be able to help us out with practices and experience our games with us in the dugout. We are blessed to have him as a part of our team.”
The foundation aims to improve the quality of life for children battling brain tumors and other cancers by pairing them with teams and community groups.
