(SUBMITTED PHOTO) The Never Forget Mobile Exhibit stopped at Southport Elementary School. New York firefighters with students took guided tours that featured artifacts found at the World Trade Center following the 9/11 attacks. The trailer, when expanded, transformed into an 1,100-foot exhibit which showcased the history of the Twin Towers from its construction until the terror attacks, where thousands died. At last year’s Fire Department Instructor Conference (FDIC), Southport Elementary second grade student Eli Thompson, middle, won a drawing to have the Never Forget Mobile Exhibit visit his school in 2019. Thompson is with retired New York fire fighters Chris Edwards, left, and Steve Wall. Thompson, the the great-great-grandson of a fire chief, wants students – who weren’t alive at the time of the attacks – to know about this defining moment in history.
