“The Book of Love” will open the 25th annual Heartland Film Festival Oct. 20 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, where Jessica Biel, producer Michelle Purple and actor Richard Robichaux are expected to make appearances. Musician Jon McLaughlin will headline the opening night concert.
After tragedy strikes Henry (Jason Sudeikis) and Penny (Jessica Biel), he befriends a tenacious young girl (Maisie Williams) and discovers that she is constructing a raft to sail across the Atlantic to find her lost father. Together they set forth to construct the vessel and subsequently rebuild their lives.
In all, 138 movies created by 100 independent filmmakers will be shown during the Academy Award-qualifying festival, which runs through Oct. 30.
