While Old Man Winter may be banging on the door, all things are toasty at the Garfield Park Conservatory, where the tropical paradise has been transformed into a winter wonderland with hundreds of poinsettias, running model trains and villages. Conservatory Crossing, which runs through Dec. 31, is a Christmas tradition not be missed, agree the park’s staff. The exhibit may be viewed from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, with extended hours until 8 p.m. Dec. 18-20 and 26 and 27. As darkness falls, the conservatory will be illuminated with thousands of twinkling lights, creating an enchanted holiday atmosphere. Admission is $3 per person or $8 for families (maximum of two adults). The conservatory is located at 2450 Shelby St. Info: 327-7184. Children can visit with Santa from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, when they can see the train and poinsettia show for free. After visiting with the jolly, bearded gent, the little ones can venture over to the arts center to make toys with “elves.” Holiday fun also awaits at the Burrello Family Center. |
