Library’s New Books Will Be Discussed

Tales of Oliver Twist Told in Musical
Based on the novel about orphan Oliver Twist, “Oliver!” will be staged July 13-15 and 20-22 by Greenwood’s Agape Performing Arts Co. Featuring children, teenagers and adults, the musical follows the 9-year-old boy as he falls in with a group of street-urchin pickpockets. When Twist’s intended mark, Mr. Brownlow, takes pity on him and offers him a home, the group plots to kidnap the boy to keep him from talking. Curtain time at McGowan Hall, 1305 N. Questions About Refugees Answered
Heidi Smith from the Indianapolis Archdiocesan Refugee Resettlement program will speak at St. Mark Catholic Church, 535 E. Edgewood Ave., at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 18. Her remarks will include who is eligible for refugee resettlement, how they apply, where they are sent and what is done to help them when arriving. There will be a questionand-answer session.
Those Old Shoes Have Value
Woodside Community Church, 1811 S. Morgantown Road, Greenwood, is hosting a shoe drive to raise funds for playground equipment and outdoor activities. Clean, gently worn and new shoes can be dropped off at the church and at 6427 St. Jean Drive. The church earns money based on the weight of the shoes donated. Pet Carnival
IndyVet Emergency & Specialty Hospital, a 24-hour facility located 5425 Victory Drive, will hosts its 20th annual Pet Carnival from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 14. The free event will feature vendors who specialize in pet-related products, an adoption fair, competitions for pets, a splash zone, face painting, caricatures, lemonade, hot dogs and popcorn. All pets must be on a leash (maximum of 6 feet) or in a carrier. Guests are encouraged to bring a donation of either pet food or a cleaning supply for Indy Humane.
