Flag Retirement Ceremony
Southport will host its annual flag retirement ceremony at 7:30 p.m. today at Southport Park, 6900 Derbyshire Road. The program will feature a color guard, a barbershop quartet, an armed forces parade, the recognition of veterans, refreshments and the playing of taps. People who have worn-out flags may bring them for proper retirement. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs.

Free Eye Screenings for Children
The Lions Club of Southport will conduct free eye screenings for 1- to 6-year-olds from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, June 22-24, at Southport Library, 2630 E. Stop 11 Road. Info: AJ Johnson at 317-250-3556 or ladylion438@earthlink.net.

Church Serves Free Lunches 
University Heights United Methodist Church, 4002 Otterbein Ave., adjacent to the University of Indianapolis, will serve free lunches from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday. 

Free Meals, Clothing and Hygiene Items

Free hot meals, clothing and hygiene items will be available from noon-2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, 725 S. State St.

Support Group for Veterans

Warrior’s Hope, an organization that assists veterans and active-duty personnel in finding positive methods to deal with the issues that trigger combat-related imagery or trauma, meets from 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays at 444 N. Madison Ave., Greenwood.

Volunteers Needed to Help Build Playground

Emma Donnan Elementary & Middle School, 1202 E. Troy Ave., is building a playground, and it needs more than 250 volunteers to assist in the endeavor. Construction will begin at 7 a.m. June 26, 27 and 28. Volunteers should be at least 18 years old and be able to assemble playground pieces, mix concrete, move mulch, etc. Gloves, goggles, breakfast and lunch will be provided. Church Offers Day Camps
SS. Francis & Clare Catholic Church, 5901 Olive Branch Road., Greenwood, is offering a summer camp program through July 21. Each week of the faith-based and educational camps – suitable for pre-kindergartners through eighth-graders – features a different theme. Single days and full weeks are available. Yard Sale for American Cancer Society
Relay for Life will host a yard sale from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Beech Grove Middle School track, 1300 Main St., to benefit the American Cancer Society. The sale will feature video games, movies, collectibles, antiques, steins, sterling silver, purses, shoes, clothes, cookware, kitchen items, planters, pictures, decor, wooden blinds, a car seat, breast pump kits, linens, ceramics dolls, books, games and much more.

Grief Support Group

A grief support group will meet from 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays beginning June 21 at GracePoint Church, 330 W. Whiteland Road, Whiteland. Info: 317-535-3512.
