G.H. Herrmann Funeral Homes has earned the Indiana Funeral Directors Association’s Award of Excellence for the second year in a row and has its eyes set on becoming a repeat winner of the national award in November.

The only funeral home in Indiana to be so honored, Herrmann was singled out for setting and maintaining the highest professional standards in the areas of compliance, community involvement, professional development and service.

Among other things, the staff was recognized for its participation in continuing education classes and mentorship programs.

As an addition to its community service, Herrmann is in the early stages of developing a program where it can take its therapy dogs to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health and nursing homes. These dogs are known to have a soothing effect on patients of all ages.

Owner Jeff Herrmann operates funeral homes at 1505 S. East St., 5141 Madison Ave. and 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, which is known as the Gardens at Olive Branch. The fountain at the Greenwood site is being renovated and should be up and running next week.

“On our 90th anniversary it’s a great honor that other funeral homes through out the country have given us this recognition for our staff’s hard work and our innovative programs,” Herrmann said.
