Southside wrestlers earned four individual championships Saturday at the Perry Meridian Regional.
The Falcons claimed titles as Brett Johnson defeated Warren Central’s Trent Pruitt 7-2 in the 145-pound class and teammate Noah Warren pinned WC’s Dominic Herrick for the 152-pound title. Five other Falcons reached championship matches.
Beech Grove’s Ethan Smiley defeated Warren Central’s Dylan Culp, 4-2 for the 120-pound title.
Franklin Central’s Jordon Vaughn won the 145-pound class when New Palestine’s Jared Timberman suffered an injury and could not continue.
Perry Meridian was runner-up to Warren Central 252-168; the Warriors claimed seven individual crowns.
Twenty-four wrestlers from six Southside teams qualified (first- through fourth-place finishers) for the semistate at New Castle at 9 a.m. Saturday:

Swimmers advance to state
Center Grove’s Peighton Gilbert won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle championships Saturday at the Franklin Sectional swimming and diving championships.
Gilbert covered the 50-yard race in 23.95 seconds and the 100 in 52.44 seconds.
Greenwood diver and all-time Woodman record holder Krista Jones won the sectional title at Franklin with 477.40 points. She competed in the Bloomington North diving regional meet Tuesday night (results unavailable at press time).
At Lawrence North, Franklin Central’s Jamie Leming won the sectional crown in the 100 backstroke in 56.68 seconds.
The state finals are Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Indiana University Natatorium, 901 W. New York St.
