The Saints edged rival Edinburgh 2-1 in their first game in the North Daviess Semistate. A misplayed popup in the bottom of the ninth enabled the Saints to score the winning run to end a pitchers duel between Lutheran’s Kimmie Kuehr, who hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Edinburgh’s Maddi Clark.
In the nightcap, Tecumseh ruined Lutheran’s bid for a seventh state championship game appearance by downing the Saints 8-2.
Center Grove (28-2) scored only one run Saturday against Gibson Southern and fell 4-1. Piper Belden scored for the Trojans in the sixth with two outs. The Titans scored all their runs in the fifth.
Gibson Southern moved up to Class 4A after winning the 3A state championship in 2015, the same year that 4A Center Grove won its record sixth state title.
