Franklin Central libero Harper Wright, front-liner Erin Starks, middle hitter Ashley Thomson and defensive specialist Anna McNeal, all seniors, make up the Flashes’ nucleus.
FRANKLIN CENTRAL (21-11) –After coaching volleyball for 15 years at Franklin Township Schools, Sandy Moore becomes the varsity coach … was a setter at Ball State University and also coached at Huntington North and Ben Davis … Flashes graduated six seniors, but these Flashes could be better … returnees up front had 583 of 930 kills last season … key leaders are 6-1 junior setter Haley Sobieralski (152 kills and No. 2 in assists) and 5-6 senior front-liner Erin Starks (122 kills and No. 2 in digs) … Starks brings a wealth of experience and ball control … middle hitter Ashley Thomson will see more playing time up front … senior defensive specialist Anna McNeal is up from junior varsity … juniors Corri Rusk and Maddie Munger return as outside hitters … juniors Kelsey Ferrell and Janae Bell are newcomers … in tough Sectional 11 … Flashes visit Shelbyville at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Moore’s comments: “I like this group because they get along on and off the court; we haven’t had that in the past and that’s essential in making a good team. I believe we are looking at a really strong season. We have a strong group of seniors and we have some experienced juniors. Even though we graduated seven seniors, I think we will be a better because of our overall experience, particularly from club volleyball. This is one of our strongest teams, and if we stay healthy we will give a lot of teams a run for their money.”
