Greenwood Christian Academy (1A No. 12) and unranked 3A Perry Meridian captured boys soccer sectional championships Saturday.
GCA won its second straight title by dominating Hauser 4-1 at Lutheran. The Cougars scored a 3-1 upset over No. 5 Oldenberg Academy Oct. 4 to reach the title game. George Apgar, Gerrrit Huizinga and Jack Kovacs each scored in the semifinal match with Gabe Vessely in goal.
The Cougars (14-4-1) face No. 1 Covenant Christian at noon in the second game Saturday of the Knightstown Regional, with the winner facing the No. 7 Scecina-No. 11 Seton Catholic winner in the championship match at 7 p.m.
Perry Meridian shut out Roncalli 3-0 at Franklin. The Falcons upended favored Center Grove and Southport to reach the 3A sectional title match.
The Falcons (12-6-1) meet No. 13 Castle to open the Seymour Regional at 10 a.m., Saturday. No 5 Bloomington South meets No. 19 Columbus East at noon. The winners meet for the title at 7 p.m.
In girls action, Southport fell to host Lawrence North 3-0 in a 3A sectional championship match.
