Beech Grove had no fear in scheduling a defending state champion for its homecoming game and the risk paid off with a 40-28 win over Monrovia.
Two second quarter turnovers fueled Beech Grove to a 27-14 halftime edge that Monrovia was unable to close in on. This included a scoop and score by Isaiah Greene of the Hornets for a 21-7 lead.
Beech Grove quarterback Chase Andries would score touchdowns on quarterback keepers in the first half. The Bulldogs responded with Gabe Milton as he ran in Monrovia's first touchdown of the contest. The drive included a fake punt to convert on fourth down at midfield.
To start the third quarter, Monrovia ran over eight minutes of clock on on its first possession. The drive stalled on fourth and 14 with an incomplete pass.
It was the first conference loss of the season for Mornovia as it fell to 3-1, 4-2 overall. Beech Grove moves to 5-1 on the year and 4-1 in the Indiana Crossroads.
