Greenwood’s Brandon Rosado and Isaiah Boras each ran for more than 100 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Woodmen over visiting Perry Meridian 34-7, spoiling the coaching debut of Matt Henninger. The Falcons were limited to 124 yards offense.
At Center Grove, the No. 1 ranked and reigning 6A state champions fell to visiting No. 5 Warren Central 21-16. Trojans running backs Titus McCoy (ankle) and Trevor Hohlt (knee) left the game early, but Ohio transfer Russell Yeast gained 128 yards and scored a touchdown.
Franklin Central opened with a come-from-behind 21-17 triumph at Decatur Central. The Flashes trailed 17-7 but forged ahead on short TD runs by Jon Arnold and Michael Pitz in the second half.
Resurgent Manual defeated host Gary Roosevelt 21-8 Saturday for its first opening game win in 12 years.
“We feel like this could be a great year,” contended Manual athletic director Aaron Sembly.
