The past week easily goes down as the toughest on our readers who play pick'em since the top two spots were readers who missed three games while the rest of the field missed four or more games.
Readers did not forsee an upset win by the Hoosiers or a win by Monrovia over Lutheran that jostled the picks by readers and was the main reason for the most misses turned in by readers on week so far this season.
Teams who came away with a victory were: Center Grove, 51-7 in the tiebreaker; Decatur Central (28-14), Roncalli (35-9), Columbus North (41-13), Southport (42-28), Lutheran (18-13), Maryland (50-7), Northern Illinois (31-24), Notre Dame (50-33), Indiana (24-21) and Missouri State (45-24).
The pick'em winner is determined by who correctly guesses the most winners among that week's slate of games. The first tiebreaker is determined by the reader who guesses closest to the points cored by the winning team in the tiebreaker while the second tiebreaker is determined by the overall score of the game. A third tiebreaker, if needed, is determined by who sends in picks the earliest.
Two readers missed three games to vie for the top two spots while four readers missed four games to vie for the third spot and the rest of the field missed five games for more. John Faust wins by edging Mike Cahill by six points in the first tie breaker. Nick Ray captures third ahead of three other readers who missed four games, He missed the tiebreaker by only one point to finish ahead of Lisa Anderson, Nick Cahill and Jen McNally.
Faust comes away with a combo meal from Chick-A-Boom (8028 S. Emerson Avenue, Suite B) and a gift certificate to Jersey Mike's Subs (6815 S. Emerson Avenue). Mike Cahill wins a gift certificate from Chicago's Pizza (1280 US 31, Greenwood) while Ray grabs a gift certificate for a cactus blossom or fried pickles appetizer at Texas Roadhouse (270 S. Marlin Drive, Greenwood). Each of the top-three finishers also receives a gift certificate from SportClips, good for 50 percent off any men's or boys service for new clients (ID required) or get a MVP or triple play upgrade (men's or boys) for loyal returning clients.
