Four readers came out on top of the field to vie for the top three spots in a field where over one dozen entries missed just one game, but did not finish in the top spots. The winning teams in the week two pick'em were: Southport (48-14, Tiebreaker), Roncalli 21-14), Bloomington South (31-7), Center Grove (19-6), Triton Central (33-7), Greenwood (41-10), Beech Grove (68-42), and Decatur Central (49-34).
Four readers finished with an unblemished slate. Nick Ray, Doug Opel, Ken Johnson and Keegan McCarthy fought for the top spots via tiebreakers. Ray and Opel each had identical scores of 35-14 in the tiebreaker game, forcing a final tiebreaker of whose picked arrived earliest to headquarters. Ray came out on top as his picks arrived on
September 1 just one day ahead of Opel. Johnson took third after his tiebreaker score bested McCarthy by four points. The winner is determined by who correctly guesses the most winners among that week's
games. The first tiebreaker is determined by the reader who guesses closest to points scored by the winning team in the tiebreaker while the second tiebreaker is determined by the overall score.
Ray garners a combo meal from Chick-A- Boom (8028 S. Emerson Avenue, Suite B) and a gift certificate to Jersey Mike's Subs (6815 S. Emerson Avenue). Opel comes away with a gift certificate from Chicago's Pizza (1280 US 31, Greenwood) while Johnson wins a gift certificate
for a cactus blossom or fried pickles appetizer at Texas Roadhouse (270 S. Marlin Drive,
Greenwood). Each of the top-three finishers also receives a gift certificate from SportClips, good for 50 percent off any men's or boys service for new clients (ID required) or get a MVP or triple play upgrade (men's or boys) for loyal returning clients. All winners may pick up their prizes at The Southsider Voice office at 6025 Madison Ave.
Remember to send in your picks for this week online by 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9. You cannot win if you do not play.
