I live in Perry Township and have the privilege to teach in Perry Township. There is not going to be a 115 percent increase! For the average home owner ($122,700), it will mean a tax increase of $9.81 per month, for a total tax increase of $117.72 (for 12 months). I have the honor to teach 28 different classes with a total of 742 different students in my room each week. The average class size at my school is 27 children. My largest class is 31 and my smallest class is 23 students. We do not have any classes with only 17 students. The bottom line is we need more classrooms in Perry Township. We are going to have an increase of 2200 more students in our elementary schools by 2019. Currently we have 4 trailer classrooms at my school and those students have to come into the regular school building to go to the bathroom, eat lunch, and attend art, music, and PE. They have to go in and out of all sorts of weather at least 4-5 times a day. You are correct that raising the taxes 115 percent is not responsible. This referendum is only going to increase your taxes by about 11 percent not 115. Where did you get that number. I am very disappointed that you did not report these very important facts correctly. I am very happy to pay 33 cents more each day to ensure that Perry Township schools can continue to meet the needs of our growing community. It will greatly sadden me if this needed referendum doesn’t pass. That will force the school district to convert art rooms, music rooms, media centers, and gymnasiums into K-5 classrooms.
