There is a lot of infrastructure work being conducted in Beech Grove. We are starting to catch up on fixing our roads, but we still have a ways to go.
While paving roads we identify bad sections of curbing and sidewalks and replace them as we go. We also are required to make sidewalks ADA-compliant where they touch a roadway.
We are set to begin some extensive storm water drainage projects, which will make a huge improvement in our neighborhoods.
With the large amount of rain we received several weeks ago, I’m happy to report that where we have completed drainage projects, the storm water drained quickly, especially on Main Street. But like our roads, we have a ways to go to correct some of our worst drainage areas.
Work is set to begin on the much-needed addition of sidewalks on Churchman Avenue from Emerson to Arlington avenues. This will make it safer for those who walk along this area, especially people with disabilities and students walking to and from the high school.
We are fortunate to have received approximately $1 million in funding through the Indiana Department of Transportation and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization for this project.
Infrastructure improvements are so critical for the future of our city, and we look forward to continue to make improvements in this area without the issuance of any debt.
