“Heaven received an angel this week” was quoted by many Smith family members this week when referring to their mother and grandmother, and my ex-mother-in-law, Marjorie “Nana” A. Smith. My children, Austin and Alex Smith, were blessed to have her as their Nana. She had a heart of gold and as a mother-in-law she taught me to love everyone, talk positive to your children, teach them to give, always love them unconditionally and always, always have faith. When my sons share times of giving to veterans or taking a bag of cheeseburgers to the homeless, it always warms my heart because she taught us that. When my boys were young she took them to visit nursing homes, which always brought so much joy to the patients. She taught me ways of getting the boys to pick up toys and clap like its a race. I do that today with my grandson, AJ, and seeing those smiles of achievement makes me think of her. She taught me that children are precious, they love to be praised and that finding the good always makes for a better life. Nana worked in the kitchen at St. Jude School before retiring in 1985. She was loved by many students and faculty members. Her heart of gold will always be remembered. God bless Nana. I know Papa had the boat ready in heaven, so have fun sailing around listening to your favorite tunes with Phil, Dick, Madonna and Aunt Jean. Hugs and kisses to all of you.
